Gastric Bypass is a game that I have been working on for about 2 weeks now. It is a combination of a few different genres that hopefully results in more than the sum of the parts.
First, it’s a first person shooter 🙂 – the controls and all work the way you would expect a standard FPS to work. You can buy new weapons, upgrade the weapons, etc. and shoot zombies with them
Second, it’s a roguelike. The whole goal is survival. If you die, there are no continues or extra lives.
Third, it’s a construction game. You are given a whole bunch of building materials that you can build bunkers, traps, etc. to kill zombies with and to defend yourself with. Initially, this isn’t needed, but as you get to the later stages, construction skills are as important if not more than your FPS skills.
Fourth, it’s a sims game – sorta. Every morning, survivors will wander into camp. These survivors can be killed for extra money, but they can also be programmed to react to zombies in a certain way. For example, you can program a survivor to lead zombies into a trap when it sees them.
While that sounds like a mish mash of genres that couldn’t possibly work, the early prototype is actually fun.
In the screenshots below you can see some structures – all of those were created in game.
Anyways, it’s still VERY early for this game, but it’s shaping up to be a ton of fun.,
The game is going to release January 1, 2018 come hell or high water.
