So the results are in and Drain placed 31st overall!
I went into this competition with a goal to place in the top 100 so I’m pretty happy about these results. I’m especially happy about 7th in audio. I put a lot of work into the audio aspects of Drain including using Amazon Polly for the voice overs and recording 4 unique songs for the game. (After you press play, wait a second for them to load)
All of the songs were recorded using Garage Band for the iPad however I have since upgraded to FL Studio and will be using that for the majority of my game music for now on.
As you can see from the results, the two categories which we did poorly in are Fun and Graphics. This doesn’t surprise me, the game isn’t Fun in the traditional sense, it has a depressing tone about death and being in a coma. The graphics are simple blocks so that category was expectedly low as well.
There are a ton of things I will improve upon next time
- I will make a fun game (maybe!) or at least a “fun” story driven game
- I will not make a game that is too dark again!
- I will not make falling to your death a central mechanic
I have also learned what I seem to do well with
- Audio (I expected this, I’m an audiophile)
Looking forward to Ludum Dare #40 on December 1st!!
